Hindley pleased to pass Maltby test
Worksop Town opened their NCEL league campaign with a 1-0 win against Maltby Main. A 22nd minute opener from Tigers debutant Mark Simpson was enough to secure all 3 points.
Boss Hindley was pleased with his sides display against a physical side in Maltby Main, he said ‘They are a big side and everything we expected them to be. I’m glad the quality we have got shone through, a bit of magic from Simmo showed just why we signed him. The lads said in the dressing room afterwards that it was a game we wouldn’t of won last year and with a makeshift back four I am very proud of them today’.
The oppositions debutant keeper Paddy Kenny limped off with just 10 minutes on the clock and when asked if it helped his side after a shaky start from the Tigers, he said ‘Definitely, as a player or a manager when you see a big name go off like that early it does lift you. Paddy is a Premiership goalkeeper with 500 league games under his belt, that moment certainly lifted me and I had a feeling from then on that it gave us a big chance’.
When asked how the new man did Hindley was satisfied with a goal scoring debut, he said ‘Mark did well, he’s feeling his way in, he’s not had as much game time in pre-season as some of our lads but we signed him to score goals and that’s exactly what he’s done for us today’.
With another difficult game on the horizon against Bridlington on Wednesday night the Manager is looking to see where his side is against the early favourites, he said ‘It’ll be another big test yes, Curtis is organised and is a very good manager. It’ll be tough and we are going to have to replicate the sort of shift shown today and have a bit more quality in areas we need it’.
