The Tigers will look to what could of been on a rather sunny afternoon at AFC Mansfield.
Charlie Baird headed the away side into an early second half lead with the home side firing back eventually with three goals in quick succession through a Matty Plummer double and a Ollie Fearon goal.
Deapite the scoreline the Tigers battled valiantly after being forced into making late changes after several late changes to the team sheet.
Milligan was proud of his sides efforts afterwards after competing for long periods against the league leaders, he said ‘Of course we don’t like losing so naturally we are disappointed but again for 55-60 minutes we have shown we can compete with the best in the league. Some of these players are showing that they’ll be the ones that are in amongst the top teams in this league. We have a sense of pride in that but also disappointment with how the games ended, the goals we conceded are probably a bit soft but that’s what their striker gets paid the big bucks for. This run we are on is horrible and makes you feel sick but we’ve got to go again, look to Wednesday against Rainworth and Saturday against Barton and hopefully get some points on the board’.
The Tigers set up with a 4-4-2 and looked to take the game to Mansfield on the counter, we asked if the change was tactical or forced upon them, John Buckley said ‘Part of it was forced upon us but by the same token I thought our keeper did well, we aren’t stupid, he’s a very good goalkeeper. I thought the first 60 minutes was great, the number of times we came out and blocked was really good and catching them on the counter worked for a period. We are in the habit at the moment of competing and being in the game for long periods but then reacting in the wrong way when the opposition get back in the game, we’ve got to be braver and show more character’.
The pair went on to praise a few stand out individuals on the day, ‘We thought Joel Phillips did well and chased everything down, Will Sutton played well, certainly in the first half. We just didn’t react quick enough to the way the game adapted, we shouldn’t be shouting certain things from the sideline, it’s things sometimes that they should already know’.
