Full-back Max Pemberton shares his thoughts after a terrific point away to Yorkshire Amateur.
Worksop understood the difficulty of the game ahead of them today, something the young full-back expressed after the match.
Pemberton was a constant threat down the left hand flank. His beautiful cross was met by the head of centre-half Steven Wankiewicz who rose the highest in the Amateur box to put Worksop back on level terms.
Pemberton said, “It was a tough game. Obviously they’re a decent side so we came here knowing what they’re about. They’ve won six on the bounce so for us to come away with a point was fantastic, and I thought overall we were excellent.
“I just thought before I hit it that we have height advantage. I thought if I put a decent ball into the area, one of our lads would get on the end of it and luckily Vanks (Steven Wankiewicz) was there to stick it in.”
Today’s point was massive for the Tigers, after stopping Yorkshire Amateur’s six game winning streak.
The most important part of today’s result is that it keeps us in touch with the chasing pack for promotion. It could’ve got even better for Worksop, who created several chances after the goal; unfortunately we couldn’t convert any into the back of the net to take all three points back to Sandy Lane.
We travel to Harrogate Railway Athletic next week, who are currently struggling at the foot of the league. Pemberton spoke about the importance of not getting complacent and if we keep these performances up, we should collect all three points next week.
“A massive point for us today to stay in touch. Like I said, they came into the game on a good run of form.
“So to come here and get a point was great for the team; we knew how important it was to not get beaten today.
“We deserved at least a point and we could’ve taken all three. I thought we were the better side today.
“Hopefully this result will kick us on to three points next Saturday.
“They’re obviously down there at the bottom, but we can only beat what’s in front of us.
“If we keep defending like we have over recent games and attack like we did in the second half today, we know we can create enough chances next week to take maximum points.”
