“Saturday’s game will not be easy.”
That is the view of Worksop gaffer Craig Denton ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Thackley at Sandy Lane after the 4-1 home win against Athersley Recreation last week.
The Tigers play Thackley twice in the space of two weeks. We came away victorious from Dennyfield thanks to a thrilling 3-1 win ten days ago, but Denton will be on guard after the Dennyboys’ first-half performance that saw them lead at the break until Worksop turned it on in the second half. Therefore preparation for this weekend’s game is key to getting maximum points this Saturday.
Worksop winger Matthew Sykes was the star of the show in the reverse fixture; the winger was too much for the Thackley defence, creating bags of chances in the second half, in which he won the Tigers a penalty and scored a brace. Denton will be looking for the same performance this Saturday.
The Dennyboys will have no doubt done their homework on the Tigers and will be looking to contain the likes of Sykes. Thackley will be eager to inflict revenge on Worksop after letting that 1-0 first-half lead slip.
More importantly our opponents currently sit near the bottom of the league, so every point is vital for the Bradford-based side’s survival, meaning that we can’t take the Yorkshire side for granted.
Our visitors come into the game high on confidence after picking up four points in their last three fixtures. The Dennyboys came out on top of a seven-goal thriller away at Hall Road Rangers. They then faced us in the aforementioned match at Dennyfield before making the short trip to Garforth Town, where ex-Tiger Adam Muller gave Thackley a seventh-minute lead before a Josh Robinson goal for Garforth with 20 minutes to go levelled proceedings.
We go into this game with one defeat in seven and have won our last two fixtures. Denton and the lads will be hoping to make it three out of three as we look to progress further than our current league position of 5th. Let’s get down to Sandy Lane this weekend to roar on the Tigers as we look to improve our promotion chances this weekend.
