Can the Tigers keep this fantastic run going ?
The Tigers are back in league action this Tuesday away at Harrogate Railway Athletic at 7:45pm. Worksop will be expecting to pick up maximum points against a side fighting for survival.
Despite that, it should be a very tough game for the Tigers. A determined Harrogate could pose a threat for the Tigers and give us a good run for our money.
The Tigers are on an unbelievable run, winning our last eight matches, and Denton & co will be looking to improve that statistic this Tuesday. The recent good run is down to several factors but the major one has to be how the squad are all as one, for which Denton and his coaching staff deserve the credit, creating a great atmosphere on and off the field.
In our last game, at home to Knaresborough Town, the 4-1 scoreline didn’t flatter the lads, with a sterling first-half display and feeling that we should have been going into the interval more than two-nil up. The second half’s first ten minutes were dominated by the visitors but the Tigers came through that period of play unscathed and went on to score two goals later on to put the game to bed, before a great consolation goal for the visitors in the dying stages of the game.
Our hosts on Tuesday have won one game in their last three, a last minute Lewis Riley goal at home to Barton Town being enough to give the Rail a much needed three points. However, an 8-0 defeat at Penistone Church and a 3-1 home defeat to Hemsworth Miners Welfare saw the Rail slide to the bottom of the league. The number of goals they have conceded recently should spur the Tigers on to try and exploit that frailty this Tuesday.
Worksop will be looking to continue their 100% win rate against Harrogate this Tuesday. With four Tigers victories from four matches, we are something of a bogey team for Harrogate, and they will be fired up to change this statistic as they fight for survival.
Last campaign the Tigers took a 1-0 victory at Station View courtesy of a Michael Trench penalty in the 30th minute. Worksop gaffer Craig Denton will be looking for similar success on Tuesday but with a more comfortable scoreline as the pressure will rise after every game.
Players to watch:
Denton will have done his homework on the North Yorkshire side and will have several players on his radar. Here are some players that are currently in form for the Rail.
The spot-kick taker has scored two goals in the Rail’s last five games, both goals coming from 12 yards. The first penalty came in the 1-1 draw away to Bridlington Town, with the second a consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat in their last game at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
This explosive player scored a last-ditch winner in their last victory at home to Barton Town at the end of January. He could be a thorn in the Tigers’ side as that goal will give him the belief to get more for the bottom-placed side.
If you’re going on the recent run that the Tigers are on, and the head-to-head statistics, then you can only see the winning run continuing. However, we cannot take Harrogate for granted and will need to be on our A-game to get the three points, as the home advantage and the fight for survival could spur the hosts. Let’s get ourselves up to Harrogate this Tuesday to cheer the lads onto another massive three points as we look for a ninth win on the spin.
