Can the Tigers win this crunch match at Sandy Lane ?
Worksop face third-place Yorkshire Amateur at 3pm this Saturday at Sandy Lane. This is another must-win for the Tigers to continue our search for Evo-Stik football.
Our opponents won their last game on Tuesday, beating Maltby Main 4-0 at home, with a hat-trick from talisman Ashley Flynn being the highlight of the match. The Leeds-based side will come into the game high on confidence as they look to resurrect their promotion charge.
Their last three fixtures have been nothing short of a spectacle. Aside from the win over Maltby, they took another thumping 4-0 win last Saturday at neighbours Albion Sports; Harrison Blaker bagged himself a brace in the first half and goals from Callum Charlton and Flynn finished off the scoring. Their last defeat came the fixture before, losing 4-1 at fellow promotion candidates Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Scoring nine but conceding four in their previous three games shows that the team have goals in their arsenal but also can leak goals, despite producing two clean sheets in the aforementioned three games. Worksop gaffer Craig Denton will no doubt be looking to break down that Yorkshire Amateur defence on Saturday.
Denton knows that Amateur will offer a real challenge this Saturday and will get the lads prepared for another massive game.
The young manager will be looking for his defence to be well-drilled and organised to counter the threat that Yorkshire Amateur will pose. Worksop have tightened the defence in recent months and breaking it down will cause Amateur problems. We will also be needing the goals that have been flowing from the team. In-form Craig Mitchell, Matthew Sykes and co will be looking to break the Yorkshire side’s clean sheet run with a sea of goals this weekend.
Players to watch out for:
The Ex-Tiger left last month to join Yorkshire Amateur. Everyone at the club will know Price’s ability and his strengths and weakness, which we will hopefully be able to exploit on Saturday.
On the other hand Price will be geared up to get one over his former club and help his side get back in contention for the promotion challenge.
This experienced striker could prove vital on Saturday, coming off a hat-trick on Tuesday at home to Maltby Main and scoring another in the game before. Flynn is Amateur’s top goalscorer this campaign and will be on the lookout to continue this weekend. Hopefully Steve Wankiewicz and co can keep him quiet, and they face a real challenge to achieve this objective.
Yorkshire’s goals don’t just come from Flynn; Harrison Blakey scored a brace on Saturday in 4-0 thumping away to Albion Sports, and he also scored the consolation goal in the game before, the 4-1 defeat at Hemsworth.
He will be another player on Denton’s radar. If we can isolate the attackers it will take the pressure off the side and could help us to another much-needed three points.
This mouth-watering tie could be prove to be vital come the end of the season, and with both sides high on confidence with the goals they’ve both scored recently, you can only see this fixture turning out to be a real classic. Let’s make the home advantage count this weekend with a massive crowd to cheer the lads over the line this weekend. In addition, we have a special offer for this Saturday; if you’re a Sheffield Wednesday or Sheffield United season ticket holder, then bring your ticket to the turnstile and you will gain free entry to the match.
