Steve Woolley has been at Worksop Town for four of their five seasons at NCEL level, so knows more than most how much of a relief it is to the Tigers that they have gained promotion back into the Northern Premier League.
If clinching promotion wasn’t special enough, Woolley hit a landmark for appearances as he made his 150th outing for Worksop Town.
Here is what Woolley had to say after the game:
“It’s absolutely brilliant. Like I’ve said before, it is probably the hardest league around to get out of as only one goes up, which is crap really – I’m just glad that it is us.
“It’s great to hit 150 appearances for the club, but to hit that and get promotion on the same day is unbelievable, so I’m very made up.
“Just listen how the fans are on a Saturday, and no more so than today. It’s mental how they are. It’s brilliant to have them. Some people don’t get Worksop Town, and I try and explain to them that it is a proper football club with fans who follow them religiously home and away, so if any club deserves to go up from this league then it’s this one and we’ll hopefully get more and more fans following because of this promotion – the more the better!”
