Captain Danny Patterson led his side to a 4-0 victory over Albion Sports, but more importantly promotion back to the Northern Premier League.
Patterson was ecstatic when the whistle went and as we spoke to him after the whistle, he had a beaming smile on his face contrary to his tenacious style.
“It was unreal. We were brilliant first-half. We came out the blocks firing and we murdered them. We were nervous those first five or ten minutes, but after that we destroyed them. We were first to the ball, first to win the ball back and tackle. I can’t really put it into words, it was just brilliant.
“It is such a tough league to win. It takes people a long time to win it, but we have done it now as a players and what a club to win it at. We’ve not won a title for 46 years, so to be part of history and to win it is unbelievable. I don’t think it has sunk in yet, but it definitely will tomorrow.
“I’m chuffed to bits for the fans– they have got us over the line so many times and in many games where they’ve helped us through it in tough periods. From when the club was on the brink, these fans deserve this.”
