A jubilant Craig Denton expressed his delight over promotion after beating Albion Sports 4-0.
A fantastic first half, which saw the Tigers romp to a four-goal lead, meant the Tigers were all but promoted by half-time.
Matt Sykes opened the scoring from twelve yards, before Steve McDonnell doubled the advantage, finishing a deflected pass from close range. Lee Hill stole the show with a 35-yard thunderbolt from a free-kick. Sykes rounded off an amazing first 45 with a sweet effort from just inside the area on the angle.
Denton spoke to us after the game and was proud of his players and staff, praising their involvement.
“It’s amazing, to be honest. Full credit goes to the players who have been involved this season – the lads who don’t make the 16 or come on as a sub, everyone is involved. The group of players we have got are really special, which is testament to their passion and desire, and to wanting to play for the football club and get this amazing run which got us those points to get the league title. A big thanks to my management team; Rob Poulter, my assistant manager, Wayne Thompson, James Humphreys, Ben Townsend, and physios Shannon Brooks and Mollie Cartwright – we’re a massive group together, so it’s been an amazing day today.
“We told the players that you need to enjoy today, but I know the lads were just focused on getting those three points and I know the crowd wouldn’t faze them as they just stand up and be counted, and have done all season, especially in this hard run-in. Everyone’s dug in, I think we have controlled the game during the full 90 minutes and it could have been 5-0 or 6-0. We thank Albion Sports for their hospitality today; they looked after us and all the best for the rest of the season to them, but it’s time for us to celebrate tonight and look forward to the last couple of games of the season.
“The fans have been travelling and the attendances have gone up home and away. With them singing, they’re literally the twelfth man every game for us. They’re outstanding supporters who deserve this promotion.”
