Worksop under-19’s product Sam Jones shared his thought’s after a comfortable 1-0 win at home to Garforth Town. The scoreline flattered the visitors after Worksop missed numerous chances throughout the game.
Jones made his third appearance for the club and produced a fine display. The young defender explained how important it was to get the win today and to keep the momentum going with this unbelievable run that now stretches to 17 successive league wins and 19 in all competitions.
Jones said: “ I thought I played alright today. I thought the squad played steady today and were in control of the ball. After saying that, we got the most important thing which was the three points .
“I thought the fans were terrific today, the atmosphere was electric and it helped us get over the line. To walk onto that pitch to the welcome we got was unbelievable.”
Jones compared the difference and similarities of playing today and the under-19’s final a week last Thursday. Today it was about showing the players, managers, and fans what he can do and he handled the occasion brilliantly after coming on for the injured full-back Deegan Atherton; who came off with a slight knock.
He also went into detail about how the under-19’s final was different because the whole squad had played at their very best to walk away with the silverware.
“The pressure today was slightly different to playing in the under-19’s final. Today it was about impressing everyone today and the cup final was different because we had to go out there and get something to walk away as the winners. But, I thought the win today was important keep the momentum going.”
