Craig Denton has today confirmed that five players from last season’s double-winning side have committed to Worksop Town for next season, as well as the addition of a new signing.
First on the list is striker Craig Mitchell who netted 19 times last season – including the opening goal against Penistone Church and a hat-trick in the 7-0 drubbing of Yorkshire Amateur.
Matt Sykes is the next player to commit his future to Sandy Lane next season. The forward netted 32 goals last term as we clinched the league title.
Forward Steve McDonnell will also be retained for our first season in the Evo-Stik for five years. McDonnell joined the Tigers from Retford United in early November and made 29 appearances, scoring on eight occasions.
David Reay had an excellent season in between the sticks, the goalkeeper making 49 appearances and keeping 12 league clean sheets. Reay returns for the 2019/20 season – he previously played at this step with Stocksbridge Park Steels before departing for S80.
We are delighted to welcome new addition Ben Rhodes to the squad and look forward to seeing him in amber and black next campaign. Rhodes is a right-wing-back who joins the Tigers from fellow Evo-Stik South/East side Stocksbridge Park Steels.
On the departure side, Lee Hill recently announced his temporary retirement from football and leaves the club with 42 appearances, scoring 7 goals – which includes the famous bicycle kick and his 30-yard free-kick against Albion Sports! Calum Ward also self-announced that he will not be returning to the Tigers for next season. Ward made 13 appearances during his spell from Campion. Furthermore, Winger Mark Robinson leaves after a handful of appearances. We would like to thank them all for their efforts and wish them all the best for the future.
