Match Report

Worksop Town notched another five goals in an eight-goal thriller at Sandy Lane which saw Alec Denton and Micah Bishop both bag braces for a formidable Tigers side!

Harrogate Rail took an early lead through Shane Hamilton after the number ten danced his way into the box and saw his shot creep into the far corner of Jon Kennedy’s goal. However, Kennedy wasn’t to be so easily beaten moments later when the visitors threatened again; the shot-stopper was at full stretch to deny Jason Price.

Substitute Mark Simpson had only been on the pitch a matter of five minutes when Connor Higginson stole back possession in the middle of the park. When the latter played Simpson through on goal, he took it in his stride to level for the Tigers.

The Tigers began lining up to test James Webster between the sticks and Michael Trench went close, trying his luck from 35-yards out.

It wasn’t long after the break that the net rippled again for the Rail. A Dan Ryan set piece found Bradley Swain lurking in the penalty area, with Swain toe-poking the ball beyond Kennedy to make it 2-1 to the visitors, the Tigers trailing once more.

And there was no stopping the Tigers once they’d found their rhythm. Denton’s efforts finally paid off on the hour mark when the Worksop new boy opened his account for the Tigers, sweeping home the equaliser. Micah Bishop added a third, tapping in at the far post in the 68th minute to put Worksop Town well on their way to three points!

The Tigers hit the bar on a number of occasions and were left rueing those spurned opportunities when Jason Price got in on the act at 3-3. But the home side didn’t have to wait long to see their side lead once more with Man of the Match Bishop grabbing his second and Worksop’s fourth at the other end of the pitch;
four in two now for the winger!

Bishop wasn’t the only player on the pitch to get a brace, either. The impressive Denton made sure there was no coming back for Harrogate, blasting the ball into the roof of the net with ten minutes on the clock, moving the Tigers up the NCEL rankings.
