Match Report

Tigers talisman Denton comes on to score making it three out of three wins for Worksop.

The Tigers eventually edged a nervy game at Sandy Lane beating Parkgate 2-1. Striker Jordan Turner and super sub Alec Denton wrapped all three points to make it three victories in a row. Josh Moore got the Yorkshire back on level terms with ten minutes to go and that looked enough to take a point back to Rotherham which proved not to be the case.

The home side were thoroughly in control during the early stages of the game, looking comfortable in possession and making some dangerous attacks towards goal that came to nothing.

Striker Jake Currie nearly gave Worksop a twentieth minute lead after a wonderful passing move, Jack Barnett’s clever low cross into the box found Currie’s foot, the resulting effort ricocheted off the post and away for safety for Parkgate.

Ten minutes before the interval a great ball from midfielder Lee Hill put Jordan Turner through on goal, the striker cut in from the right and his resulting cross seemed to strike a Parkgate hand in their box but the man in authority waved away the protests.

Worksop took the lead six minutes after the interval from a well worked team goal, Kyle Jordan beat keeper Jepson to a loose ball and the resulting touch from Jordan found Turner at the back post who prodded home into an empty net.

The Steelers were very close to getting back into the game, skipper Kieran Hirst’s shot looped over youngster Callum Fielding hitting the frame of the goal and bounced away to safety.

On the hour Jordan made a great run towards goal his first touch was fantastic, opening himself up to slot the ball under Jepson however, the Parkgate keeper produced a fine save down to his left before receiving a ball in the face from the resulting clearance.

Turner was inch’s away from getting his second of the game and doubling the Tigers lead. Hill’s thunderbolt strike from twenty yards was parried away into the path of Turner whose volleyed shot trickled over the Steelers keeper striking the post and coming back across the line finding the relieved goalkeepers hands.

With just over ten minutes to go Moore gave the visitors the equaliser that the Yorkshire side had been threatening moments before, the striker was unmarked at the back post and he steered his header over Fielding and back across goal to equalise.

Top goal scorer Denton got Tigers back in front from a set piece that was floated into the Parkgate box, his tally now stands at 12 goals for the season and three in the last four Worksop games. A goal mouth scramble wasn’t cleared, Denton pounced to the ball first and smashed a devastating shot from five yards into the roof of the Steelers net.

Great link-up play from Turner and Denton almost gave Worksop a two goal cushion in the final seconds of the game, Denton beat the off side trap with a fantastic run, his wonderful square ball to Turner set him up beautifully but his effort smashed against the post from yards out and out for a goal kick.
