Match Report

Worksop scored another last minute goal to snatch a draw at Albion Sports.

Albion took an early lead from a Samuel Denton header via a set piece. Worksop replied with a clever last minute goal from striker Charlie Baird.

The hosts dominated the opening stages and were rewarded with a fourth minute goal, Josh Morley produced a beautiful ball into the Worksop box which found the head of Denton and the defenders header looped over Tigers keeper Fielding into the back of the net.

The Tigers grew into the game, most notably our biggest threat was down the left hand flank with Matty Templeton and Michael Trench manufacturing some fantastic runs down the wing, but their dangerous crosses across goal couldn’t find a recipient.

Mitch Husbands almost got us back on level terms just before the interval, his teasing chip from the edge of box could only find Albion keeper Jake Lofthouse’s hands though.

Into the second half and Worksop came out of the traps bombing forward and causing a real threat in Albion’s final third. Husbands hit a fierce strike on goal but it was deflected over the bar for a corner.

Controversial scenes then ensued at Throstle Nest as the hosts were through on goal, Fielding come out of goal and looked at first to catch the Sports player however, the referee instead of sending Fielding off gave Worksop a free kick and booked the Albion striker.

Worksop continued to dominate the second half twenty minutes in, several attacks came to nothing before Tigers midfielder Jack Barnetts curled effort on goal went agonisingly over the bar.

Moments later Worksop could and should’ve got back on level terms, a fantastic cross from skipper Steve Woolley from a corner fell to Sam Liversidge at the back post, his effort was blocked by a sea of Albion defenders in front of goal.

New signing Harry Wakefield almost got his first goal for the club in the dying stages, Lofthouse flapped at a loose ball which fell to Wakefield but the Albion keeper recovered well to block shot.

Eventually the equaliser did come though and it was yet another late one for the Tigers, striker Charlie Baird ran through on goal and slid the ball under Lofthouse into the corner of the goal giving Worksop a well deserved point away from home.
