Match Report

Ten men Thackley edge close encounter at Sandy Lane.

Man of the moment Mike Garrod opened the scoring in the eighth minute which was enough to secure all three points for the Yorkshire side. A trip on Worksop playmaker Charlie Baird from Centre back Jerome White resulted in the defender receiving a straight red from the man in authority, creating a tense last few minutes of the game.

Thackley came out of the traps in the early stages, they looked a threat in the early minutes of the game and were rewarded with an opening goal courtesy of that man Garrod who tapped home an easy finish from a cross.

The first chance for the Tigers fell to Worksop winger Igor Mlynarski, he rifled a dangerous shot that went agonisingly wide of the goal.

The Tigers started to grow into the game and looked dangerous on the attack, youngster Luke Black provided an unbelievable cross from a free kick that almost met the toe of Jack Barnett.

That man Black was in the mix of things going forward and could’ve got us back on level terms, his slick skills were too much for the Thackley defence and his bullet effort stung the hands of the Denny boys keeper Luke Wilson.

Worksop started the brighter of the two sides in the second half, debutant Luke Smith came off the bench and looked a real threat from the re-start, his deflected effort on goal looped over the keeper and ricocheted off the bar.

The tempo of the game slowed down half way through the second half which played right into the visitors hands, Worksop huffed and puffed going forward but couldn’t find the break through as the Thackley defence gave nothing away.

Worksop continued to try and break the rock solid Dennyboys defence, most notably the ball in from Barnett found defender Jonathan Bownes but his over-head kick couldn’t find the target.

Moments later Centre Half White brought down Baird just outside the visitors box, the man in authority gave the defender his marching orders, creating a nervy last few minutes for our visitors.

Despite the sending off we couldn’t get ourselves back into the game. This is our fourth defeat on the bounce and hopefully we will pull the results around starting away to Parkgate next weekend.
