Match Report

Garforth stole all three points after a what looked a convincing fight back from the Tigers.

A Brace from striker Mitch Hamilton and a goal from attacker Callum Ward was enough to take all three points back to West Yorkshire,

Worksop came from behind twice in the first and second-half, goals coming from Centre back Steven Wankiewicz and a late equaliser from striker Jordan Turner but it wasn’t enough to claim a point for the Tigers.

Garforth took an early lead against the run of play, a weak back pass met the feet of Miners striker Ward, while running through on goal the centre forward produced a lovely finish past Kennedy which gave the Yorkshire side an undeserved lead.

Worksop drew level just before the half hour, unlikely goalscorer Steven Wankiewicz found himself with the ball deep inside the Garforth box, while tucking away a tidy finish from close range over visitors goalkeeper Stephen Weathersrill.

Moments later the Miners got their noses back in front, Hamilton leapt like a salmon to latch onto a brilliant cross, the Garforth man used all his neck muscles to head the ball back from where it came and saw his effort nestle in the corner clipping the post on its way in.

Tigers could and should’ve produced an equaliser five minutes after the hour mark,Turner made an unbelievable run which caused havoc amongst the Garforth back line, the striker unleashed a terrific strike with the outside of his boot that rattled the woodwork, the rebounding headed effort on goal was squandered over the bar from five yards out.

Worksop striker Mark Simpson almost got one over his former employers in the 80th minute, dodging and weaving through the visitors defence, Simpson hit a curling effort that was blocked en route to goal before finding the visitors keepers hands.

Tigers snatched a late equaliser with three minutes to go, what a ball over by Matty Thompson meeting striker Turner who thumped a cracking volley into the roof of the Garforth net setting up a nervy and exciting finish for both sides.

The late winner came from Garforths Hamilton who bagged his second of the game, after a switch of play from the visitors the ball fell to Hamilton who cut inside to produce what looked like a cross-come-shot but the effort flew into the Worksop goal over the head of Kennedy for the Miners to steal all three points.
