Retford United 1-1 Worksop Town

A normally fiery local derby saw both teams battle for fitness levels on a warm evening at Retfords Cannon Park ground.

Steve Woolley took the armband in a new look Tigers side led by new boss Ryan Hindley.

Worksop striker come midfielder Mitch Husbands scored a lovely effort to peg back a Ben Kilmer goal that gave Retford United an early lead to effectively finish the game in the first half.

With plenty of new faces on show and so early into pre-season the game struggled to spark to life and it was Retford who took the lead through Ben Kilner on 25 minutes, the Badgers captain capitalised on what looked like a foul on our young goalkeeper Callum Fielding.

Worksop drew level though just after the half hour mark. When a deflected shot from Husbands wrong footed the badgers keeper Josh Lill, resulting in the ball sailing into the top right hand corner of the Retford goal.
Moments later a great cross from Adam Scott fell to the unmarked Woolley at the back post, whose point blank header was tipped over by Lill.

The Tigers pressed further and had another good chance in the 41st minute, new striker Jake Currie produced a great turn on the edge of the box creating some space for his self but saw his powerful shot cannon off the post and go wide.

A flurry of substitutions took place during the interval for the Tigers and Mitch Husbands became captain for the second half.
With 15 minutes to go lively winger Liam Greenfield made a dangerous run deep in the Retford half, he hit a fierce drive from 20 yards out which was well saved by the Retford goal keeper.

In the dying stages the ball fell kindly to Tigers striker Steve McDonnell 12 yards out, the new recruit hit a powerful shot but the impressive Lill produced another great save to end the game 1-1.
